  • Social Justice Statement | Nuna Psychotherapy

Read our statement on social justice, inclusivity, and equity. Social Justice Statement The purpose of this statement is to guide internal decision making and overall conduct of Nuna Behavioral Healthcare (NBHC) staff, contractors, and policies. Inclusion, racial justice, equity, and anti-oppression are central to the purpose of NBHC in addition to our desired activities and presence in our community. Background We are dedicated to dismantling oppressive forces and promoting an ongoing process of healing and transformation within ourselves and our communities. This commitment is rooted in our belief that all members of our community have inherent worth and dignity. We stand firm, as a BIPOC organization, in our position as the global majority and acknowledge the harm dominant cultures have and continue to perpetuate against us. Historical Context We recognize that the profession of social work can come from a carceral perspective and in many ways still upholds values that contribute to the oppression of marginated communities and individuals. We acknowledge harmful practices in the name of social work. As practitioners of social work (and members of marginalized groups ourselves) we acknowledge that healing requires social justice. Values Inclusivity We honor and celebrate the identities of our clients/consumers/partners because we respect each individual’s inherent worth. We embrace and celebrate cultural diversity as a source of strength for individual and community well-being. Resilience We foster our community's capacity to respond and recover from crises by leveraging local resources, strengthening local knowledge, cultivating sustainable infrastructure, and nourishing trusting relationships, particularly of marginalized communities within and beyond our local areas. Collaboration/Co-creation We uplift the self-efficacy and respect the self determination of our collaborators/clients/consumers/partners. We understand that healing is relational and that we are co-creators of the process. Anti-Racism Within our own organization and the broader society, we examine and advocate for systemic policies and practices that eliminate long standing disparities and inequities that disproportionately affect Black communities, Indigenous communities, and communities of Color. Principles Our principles define the standards that we hold for ourselves and our organization. Accountability We hold ourselves accountable to the people and communities we serve and maintaining the culture of inclusivity within the quality of care we provide

We intentionally decolonize clinical practice so that healing is guided by each person’s knowledge, experiences, and wisdom. Our team brings both lived experience and clinical expertise, working collaboratively to understand not just the individual, but the context and history that shape them. We see recovery as a return to the whole self, and our role is to walk alongside clients as co-journeyers, offering culturally responsive care that restores power, connection, and possibility. OUR MISSION Our mission is to center the needs of those who have been dismissed or traumatized by healthcare systems and ensure that quality, personalized care is accessible to everyone. OUR VISION We envision self-sustaining communities where healing is collective, connection is medicine, and freedom is held together, not alone. OUR VALUES Inclusivity, Equity, Resilience, Anti-racism, Intersectionality, Accountability, Collaboration, Co-creation Our Social Justice Statement OUR NAME Nuna (누나), is pronounced noo-na "Nuna," which means "big sister" in Hangul (Korean). Our founder was inspired by clients' stories of their big sisters stepping in during tough times—advocating for their mental health, ensuring they got to appointments, and truly understanding their struggles when others dismissed their needs. Nuna was created to honor the power of collaboration in care and the loving support that big sisters from both chosen and intergenerational families provide.

Therapeutic Journey HOGAR SERVICIOS Y PRECIOS Our Therapists Our Policies File Share Social Justice Statement For Patients Patient Portal New Page Check Your Insurance Coverage Reviews New Page Blog NUESTROS TERAPEUTAS Search Results Booking Page Schedule a Virtual Appointment Members Close Self-Verifying Insurance Most health insurance plans include mental health and substance use treatment. Typically insurance cards limit information on them and don't include details about your benefits, copay or co-insurance amount, or if your mental healthcare is managed by a different company than the one showing on your card. Before you start, always confirm your coverage with your insurance provider before scheduling any appointments. This step ensures you won't face unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. How to verify your insurance benefits and eligbility 01 Prepare for the call 02 Contact Insurance Provider 03 Document and communicate details Steps to Self-Verify 01: Prepare for the Call Before calling your insurance provider, gather the necessary information to verify your benefits. The goal is to confirm whether your provider and the services they offer are covered under your plan. Check Network Status: You will want to ask if the provider is "in-network." Our group practice bills using the Tax IDs and NPIs of the licensed clinicians so please give us a call to receive the specific NPIs and Tax IDs that would correspond with the provider you have scheduled your appointment with. Prior Authorization: Determine if prior authorization is needed for services. If using EAP benefits: Have your authorization letter and number ready. If not using EAP benefits: Be prepared with the CPT codes for services – 90791 (initial evaluation), 90837 (60-minute session), and 90834 (45-50-minute session). 02: Contact Your Insurance Provider Find the "Member Services" or "Customer Service" number on your insurance card, usually on the back. Have the following information ready: Insurance ID number Your name, date of birth, and Social Security number For example, on a Cigna card, the customer service number is typically located at the bottom of the back side (#14 in the sample card image). Each plan has a unique layout, but you can generally use numbers labeled "Customer Service," "Member Service," or "Mental Health/Behavioral Health." 03: Document and Communicate Details Ask the following questions during your call and write down the responses, including the name of the representative and any reference numbers: What is my copay for routine services? (you can use the CPT codes if you want to be certain) What is my coinsurance percentage? How many therapy sessions are covered per year? Can you confirm if my provider is in-network? If the provider is not in-network. You can ask the following: Does my plan cover a portion of the cost before I meet my deductible? What does my plan cover after I meet my deductible? How much do I have left to reach my deductible?
